Clark County sits on top of a large limestone deposit, which was mined in the 1800's and used to construct many of the buildings in Springfield, Ohio. Since limestone was not recommended as suitable for paver stone for the Governor's Walkway Project, granite was selected as the closest resemblance to limestone in color and appearance.
