This stone is a sample of the highly polished marble floor of the Mercer County Courthouse rotunda. The courthouse was completed in 1923 and has been referred to as a “veritable marble palace.” The walls of the rotunda are high panels of Vermont marble, and black marble is used to accentuate the main entrances and grand staircase rail.
