| On the bottom of the mug, Edith's signature and the Rookwood mark are visible. Also more easily visible is the glaze, which was termed "Standard glaze" by Rookwood. The Standard glaze line, first displayed in 1884, is glossy, yellow-tinted, and translucent. However, it is often applied over brown underglaze painting, which changes its appearance entirely. The wheel-ground "X" scored into the glaze denotes that the mug was found imperfect and was sold as a second. |
