| Kataro Shirayamadani (called "Sherry" by his friends and fellow workers) was born on August 15, 1865 in Kanazawa, Japan. He worked at Rookwood from 1887 until his death on July 19, 1948. Sherry is considered by many to be Rookwood's most talented artist. He was an excellent decorator and designed most of the shapes used at the pottery. Sherry is buried in Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, where the records have incorrectly listed his birthplace as Tokyo. |
