Rookwood's marking system remained fairly uniform throughout the company's history. The "RP" stamp was adopted in 1886, and one flame was added to the wreath around it until 1900. Subsequent years were indicated by roman numerals, and a record number usually appeared underneath. Thus, the stamp on this vase reads "Rookwood Pottery 1958, product 6434".
