John Hamilton Delaney Wareham was born January 27, 1871, in Grand Ledge, Michigan. His parents were Hamilton and Julia (Delaney) Wareham. John Wareham preferred to be called Dee. As a young man, Dee attended the Cincinnati Art Academy. In 1893, he began his lifelong career at Rookwood, during which he served as a decorator. From 1934-1941 he was also the president of the company. As well as his skill with pottery, Dee was an accomplished oil painter. He died in Cincinnati OH on April 25, 1954.
