The Rhodes Family, 1963-1971
Ohio’s longest-serving Governor, Jim Rhodes, lived in the Residence for eight years with his wife Helen and their three daughters Sue, Saundra, and Sharon. Mrs. Rhodes hosted several teas each week at the Residence and enjoyed arranging flowers for the house and creating handmade ornaments for the Residence tree each Christmas.
Two of the Rhodes’s daughters were married while their father was in office and their wedding receptions were held at the Residence. Bob Hope, Pat Boone, Lionel Hampton, and Art Linkletter were among the notable guests entertained by the Rhodes family.
Jim Rhodes also served as Governor from 1975 to 1983, but his family chose not to live in the Residence during his last two terms.
