The Voinovich Family, 1991-1998

Governor Voinovich

George and Janet Voinovich continued the work of restoring and refurbishing the Residence that had been started by the Celestes. Mrs. Voinovich worked with the Ohio Historical Society to find furniture that complemented the Jacobean Revival Architecture of the house. She found many pieces that are used in the Residence at tag sales and in state-owned storage facilities. The Voinovichs established the Governor’s Residence Advisory Commission in 1995 to oversee the public rooms and to ensure that the architectural integrity of the property is maintained.

Memorable events at the Residence during the Voinovich Administration include the wedding reception of their eldest son and visits from Barbara Bush and Billy Graham.
