Tours of the Ohio Governor's Residence and Heritage Garden

Tours of the Residence are available most Tuesdays at 10:30, 12:00, and 1:30. Specially trained volunteers lead guests through the public rooms of the Residence and the Heritage Garden. The Governor and First Lady are not available to greet visitors during tours. For more information please see the tour FAQ.

Tours must be scheduled at least one week (7 days) in advance. Scheduling is on a first come, first served basis. Tour Guidelines must be observed by all visitors. A minimum of 10 guests is required to add a new tour to the schedule. Individuals or smaller groups are welcome, but will be added to an existing tour. The maximum number of guests that can be accommodated at one time is 55 (one busload).

Tours require approximately one hour of standing and walking. The Residence is an ADA compliant facility and visitors who may have trouble walking or standing are encouraged to bring wheelchairs and walkers. Tours must be scheduled at least one week (7 days) in advance. Scheduling is on a first come, first served basis. Tour Guidelines must be observed by all visitors.

Things you need to know…

  1. If you need to make any changes to your plans please contact Mary Alice Mairose, Residence Curator at 614.644.7644 x1 as soon as possible.
  2. For security purposes:
    • An alphabetized list of tour guests must be submitted at least a week prior to your scheduled tour, to residence@governor.ohio.gov or faxed to 614-644-7482 or mailed to 358 North Parkview Ave. Columbus, Ohio 43029.
    • Guests arriving before their scheduled time will not be admitted until the time of their appointment.
    • Each group must select one main contact who must accompany the group. Upon arrival the group leader should check in with the Highway Patrol at the carriage house located on Maryland Avenue.
    • Each guest must provide photo identification for admittance.
    • Handbags, purses, and backpacks not permitted on premises.
    • Books and other small items are available for purchase. You may wish to bring cash or a checkbook.
  3. Your 60 minutes with us will include tours of the inside of the Residence and the Heritage Garden (weather permitting). If you have a special request regarding your tour please contact Mary Alice Mairose at least one week prior to your arrival.
         Please note that late arrival will result in shortened or possibly cancelled tour.
  4. Cars or vans may park on Maryland Avenue or adjoining streets. Buses must park in front of the Residence on Parkview Avenue.
  5. At the start of your tour, the docents will greet you at the Maryland Avenue gate and possibly break you into groups. Visitors arriving by bus should wait on the bus and the docents will board the bus to check identification.
  6. Please be courteous during your visit.
    • Stay with your group.
    • Turn off cell phones.
    • Do not sit or lean on furniture or objects in the Residence.
    • Do not bring food, drinks or gum on to the premises.
  7. Please note:
    • Restroom facilities are very limited.
    • While the Residence is ADA compliant, the tour consists of one hour of standing and walking. Wheelchairs and seating are not available but please let us know in advance if any members of your group have mobility challenges so we can assist them.
    • The Governor and First Lady are not available to meet with guests during tours.

The Residence is located on the corner of North Parkview and Maryland Avenues. On-street parking is available on Maryland, Parkview and other side streets. Guests enter the property from Maryland Avenue. Upon arrival please check in with the Ohio Highway Patrol, located in the Carriage House on Maryland Ave., who will announce your arrival.

Take I-71 South to I-670 East.
Exit onto 5th Avenue (exit #7) and turn east (right).
